Description

SPECIALIST & BARBEL RODS

Ultra-Light Feel. Serious River Authority.

This specialist Tamer series is built on ultra-slim, lightweight blanks that feel crisp in the hand and incredibly responsive in use, yet carry the backbone needed for serious river work. A distinctive carbon ‘X’-Tape runs the length of each blank, and it isn’t there for show—it reflects a complex construction designed to keep the blank stable under load and recover cleanly cast after cast.

A multi-stage manufacturing process blends Japanese 40t and 30t carbon with resin content kept below 25%. Layers are wrapped alternately at 0° and 90° for strength and stability, then further reinforced with 3mm bi-axis carbon tape at 45°, producing blanks that are exceptionally strong, ultra-light, and impressively slim for their power.

They’re finished in our ‘Perdurable’ blank finish—meaning no paint or lacquer is applied after precision grinding—so the quality of the carbon can be admired for years to come. The modern matt finish also helps reduce blank “flash”, keeping things understated when you’re creeping along a margin or holding station close to a snag.

Designed for the serious specialist and dedicated barbel angler, the range covers everything from intimate side streams to big, fast rivers—and because versatility matters, each rod is supplied with both an Avon top section and a separate quiver top section, complete with a long push-in carbon quiver tip. Additional quiver tips are available from 1oz for shy-biting fish in the dead of winter, right through to 8oz for serious flood-water fishing, allowing you to tune bite indication and control precisely to the conditions.

Recommendations

Intimate rivers, side streams, and roving: River Tamer 11’ 1½lb (RBTM544)

Is the finesse choice—light, responsive, and ideal when you’re covering water and fishing closer in.

Classic barbel in tight pegs: Barbel Tamer 11’ 2lb (RBTM545)

Is made for “hit and hold” snag work—shorter length for extra leverage and faster control, supplied with the 4oz carbon quiver tip.

True all-rounder for barbel and chub (plus tench/bream): Barbel Tamer 12’ 1¾lb (RBTM556)

Is the everyday workhorse—balanced action with enough power for most rivers and still refined enough for mixed species.

Big flow, heavy leads, demanding venues: Barbel Tamer 12’ 2¼lb (RBTM547)

Is the power option—best for flooded rivers, stronger currents and long-range bream/tench fishing where extra backbone pays off.

Tip choice for the conditions

Drop to 1–2oz when bites are shy and the river is low and cold; move up through the midweights as flow and feeder size increase; and keep the 8oz options in mind when you’re fishing heavy gear in full flood.

Top section choice

Use the quiver top for bite indication and subtle feeding situations; swap to the Avon top when you want a more direct, progressive playing curve and firmer control in flow.
