Description
FLOAT RODS
Progressive Float Actions. Ultra-Light River Control.
Using the same 40T very low-resin Japanese Toray carbon as the rest of the Hi-‘S’ range, these float rods are extremely light to hold but are a joy to use all day. The carbon doesn’t soften perceptibly, so it will stay strong for many, many years with no change in action.
The original series was very well thought out, with the 15’ being the go-to rod for barbel trotting on rivers like the Trent, Severn and the Wye. River trotting is now regaining popularity, and since float rods are also coming back into fashion, we have not only modernised the build but added a 3-piece 14’ and a 4-piece 17’ for greater versatility.
We have revised the original range with updated modern looks, combining a lockdown Fuji reel seat with EVA front, full cork rear grip to an EVA butt cone and all stainless steel fittings.
The ultra slim blanks are designed with specialist fishing in mind, hence the 12’ and 13’ models are made in two pieces. This makes for better actions to control large fish in currents or under the rod top, since we believe the action flows better through the blank and the power transmission is smoother. The blanks are slimmer, the actions more sweeping and progressive—and the elimination of the traditional extra joint makes the blank lighter.

Recommendations
10’ Special Power Float
For smaller, more intimate rivers—or where bankside vegetation restricts space—the 10’ is especially useful for hard-fighting species like chub and barbel, where extra leverage and less carbon for the fish to bend can make the difference when they’re trying to reach snags. It’s also a superb option on commercials for carp with wagglers.
12’ Special Power Float
A wonderful stillwater tool for tench, bream, roach, rudd and crucians. Light enough to hold all day, it combines a sensitive tip with real mid-to-butt authority, building pressure progressively to help prevent fish reaching cover—and to help extract them should they get there.
13’ Special Power Float
The true all-rounder, equally at home on lakes and rivers for tench, bream and crucians, or chub, barbel and grayling. Suitable for close-range stick work, waggler fishing, and ideal for trotting a pellet waggler for barbel—especially when you’re fishing over-depth and dragging bottom slightly to make the presentation feel more natural.
14’ Special Power Float (3-piece)
A beautifully practical trotting length that bridges the gap between the 13’ all-rounder and the classic 15’ river tool. The 3-piece format makes it far easier to transport for roving anglers, while the added length improves line control, mending and presentation—particularly when you want to slow a float properly through crease lines or hold back without the rod feeling cumbersome.
15’ Special Power Float
Designed with flowing water in mind. Despite the length it remains impressively light, so it can be held for long periods when trotting for chub, barbel and grayling—often while wading or standing in the water. The additional length gives greater control when mending the line whilst trotting the stick or for casting longer distances with a waggler, or when slider float fishing. We even have customers that use this rod to target carp in canals and channels and even trotting for steelhead from boats—proof that a well-designed float rod can travel far beyond its original brief.
17’ Special Power Float (4-piece)
When maximum reach and line control are the priority, the 17’ comes into its own—giving extra authority for mending at range, steering floats through difficult currents, and keeping line off conflicting surface flow. The 4-piece design makes it surprisingly travel-friendly for its length, ideal for anglers who move swims frequently or want a true long-reach float rod without committing to an awkward transport length.
