Helical Carp Rods

The 12ft and 13ft Helical carp rods form the backbone of the range. The 12ft 3.00lb and 3.25lb models are genuine all-rounders, suited to most day tickets, club waters and medium to large lakes where you need a blend of casting power and a forgiving playing action. Step up to the 12ft 3.50lb when you’re using heavier leads and solid PVA bags, fishing at range, or tackling waters with more weed and snags. Don’t be fooled by the price tag – these rods are serious performers.

For anglers who regularly fish at the very limit of their casting, the 12ft SU and 13ft SU models are designed to deliver serious distances while retaining a usable, progressive curve once you’re into a fish. The 13ft SU Long Handle version shifts the reel seat 35mm up the blank to provide extra leverage – particularly helpful for taller anglers or anyone who really loads a rod on the cast. All 12ft and 13ft blanks are rung with 50mm butt guides to 16 anti-frap tips to keep line flow as smooth and efficient as possible.

As with all Free Spirit ranges, the Helical carp rods are all about choice and options to suit every situation and taste. Abbreviated-handle models feature a shrink rubber and EVA cone butt grip, DPS18 reel seats and a slim EVA front cone with Acetal fittings to create a clean, modern all–black look. You then have the option of matt black frames with stainless steel–lined guides for a light, crisp feel, or ceramic–lined guides that are better suited to braided and fluorocarbon main lines or to waters with a high sand content or a lot of weed, where particles can cling to the line and abrade steel liners over time. The ceramic inserts add a small amount of extra weight to the blank but offer far greater protection against friction and wear.

For anglers who prefer a different feel in the hand, we also offer, on certain models (see details in the technical tables), full shrink and full cork builds. All rods are finished with a classy red tipping around the logo, tying the whole range together. The blanks themselves feature our Perdurable finish – with no paint or lacquer to chip or dull – so they will stay looking good for many years of hard use.

Blanks utilise high-quality carbons so they are light yet powerful and responsive, making casting easier and fish playing a pleasure. The slim–diameter tips help transfer power smoothly down the blank for controlled, effortless casting and also allow the use of lighter lines when required – ideal for extreme–range work, zig fishing or surface presentations where finesse and crisp recovery make a real difference.
