Description
BLANKS
Premium Japanese Carbon. Exceptional Blank Performance.
Hi-‘S’ blanks use ultra high modulus 40T very low-resin Japanese Toray carbon, giving them the slimness, lightness and crisp recovery that have made the Hi-‘S’ range one of Free Spirit’s most recognised blank platforms. Designed by Free Spirit and made exclusively for us, these blanks combine low weight with genuine power, allowing the whole blank to load progressively rather than relying on an overly stiff tip or a heavy, unresponsive lower section.
The very low-resin construction helps keep the blank light, responsive and stable over time. Resin pockets are smaller and better dispersed through the carbon structure, helping reduce the softening often associated with lower-grade materials. This means the action remains cleaner and more consistent through long-term use.
Hi-‘S’ blanks are finished with a full-length 1K weave and our Perdurable finish. The 1K weave gives the blank its distinctive appearance, running through to the very end of the tip, while the Perdurable finish avoids unnecessary paint or lacquer weight and helps preserve the look of the blank for many years. This finish also makes any future repair or rebuild work far more straightforward, as guides, fittings or whippings can be removed and replaced professionally without damaging the blank or compromising the finish.
Because the material quality is so high, the tips can be kept slim and responsive without becoming crude or brutally stiff. This allows the blank to compress smoothly, recover quickly and transmit power progressively through the middle and butt sections. The result is a blank that can help less confident casters load more easily while still rewarding capable casters with distance, accuracy and control.

Hi-‘S’ Blank Uses
Carp & Short Carp Blanks
The Hi-‘S’ carp blanks cover everything from compact 10’ models through to 12’, 12’6” and 13’ long-range options. The shorter blanks are ideal for stalking, boat work, smaller waters, rivers and tight swims where control at close range matters. The 12’ and 12’6” models provide the core all-round carp actions, while the 13’ and long-range ‘ive, 200 and 220 blanks are designed for more demanding distance work.
The lighter test curves offer forgiveness and feel, while the heavier options provide greater authority for stronger casting, bigger waters, heavier leads, boats, weed and snag-related work.
Spod, SPM & Marker Blanks
The Hi-‘S’ Spod, SPM and Marker blanks use the same 40T very low-resin carbon platform but are tuned for repeated casting with heavier loads. The spod blanks provide more payload authority, while the SPM blanks use faster, more responsive tips to help turn over spods and baiting devices straighter and more accurately.
The marker blanks are tuned differently again, with the tip designed to transmit feel and help prevent the lead from bouncing over features. These blanks are well suited to custom builds where the user wants to choose their own guide pattern, handle layout or reel seat for heavy baiting and feature-finding work.
Surface Creeper Blanks
Hi-‘S’ Surface Creeper blanks are designed for delicate presentation while retaining enough progressive power to control large carp on lighter lines or hooklinks. The 11’ model is suited to free-lining, roving and subtle surface work, while the longer LR versions add extra casting authority for controllers and more demanding surface fishing.
Specialist & Barbel Blanks
The Hi-‘S’ Specialist and Barbel blanks bring the lightness and feel of the 40T carbon platform into specialist fishing. These blanks are designed for chub, barbel, tench, bream and other specimen work where bite detection, control and progressive power are essential.
The Small Water and 1lb 8oz Specialist blanks suit lighter rivers, roving and specimen work, while the 2lb Barbel and heavier Specialist/Heavy Barbel blanks provide additional power for stronger flows, larger feeders, bigger rivers and demanding winter conditions.
Special Power Float Blank
The Hi-‘S’ Special Power Float blank applies the same high-grade carbon approach to a powerful specialist float rod format. The 15’ blank is designed for trotting and line control on rivers, particularly where a longer rod helps with mending, presentation and controlling powerful fish in flow.
